The project “Decentralized support for Ukrainian refugees”, funded by the international humanitarian organization Oxfam, was implemented by CDA in the period 01.04.2022 – 31.03.2023, targeting displaced persons from Ukraine living in host communities in 10 districts of the country, representatives of local public authorities and members of local communities.
Through the establishment of decentralized offices, mobile teams, CDA employees facilitated access of displaced persons from Ukraine to legal aid services. They organized events for social cohesion and integration of beneficiaries into local communities. CDA lawyers also trained social workers on national and international legislation on refugee rights, national asylum procedures, temporary protection; the legal situation of children coming from Ukraine to Moldova.
The CDA supported the implementation of local projects in the host community, such as the procurement of lifts adapted to the needs of people with disabilities for the Stefan-Vodă Culture House and the District Library of Causeni; the procurement of a laptop and shelves for the Causeni District Library; the donation of goods and supplies needed by youth centres, creative centres, district councils, schools and other institutions in local communities.
CDA legal advisors Diana Covalenco-Norosian, Alla Chebac, Denis Potereanu, Tatiana Vicol, Victor Tînor, Vera Garciu, Diana Strechii and CDA Oxfam project coordinator Aurelia Bagrin presented the results of the implementation of the CDA-Oxfam Project in Anenii Noi, Causeni, Stefan Voda, Basarabeasca, Cahul, Ungheni, Balti, Soroca, Comrat and Orhei districts.
Within the framework of the Project were carried out:
72 information sessions;
35 social cohesion events;
14 trainings for social workers;
the Campaign – Road Education Week “A pedestrian of grade 10” was carried out;
an essay competition;
26885 individual counsellors were provided.
The Executive Director of CDA, Oleg Palii, appreciated that the CDA-Oxfam Project was a beautiful one, with many positive emotions, with real impact for people, local public authorities, members of local communities.
Oxfam representative Kyriakos Giaglis said that Oxfam-funded activities in the Republic of Moldova are important, but what was done in collaboration with CDA was of special significance. This is because it is about fundamental issues, such as the defense of human rights. CDA, in addition to providing legal assistance, also carries out advocacy, promotion and information activities. This is why Oxfam’s plans in the region and in Moldova will include the continuation of the partnership with CDA, Kyriakos Giaglis said.
The event of the summing up of the CDA-Oxfam Project activities was attended by the association’s partners from the 10 districts where it was implemented, including social workers, heads of DASPFs of some districts, mayors of some localities, heads of placement centres, district libraries of Causeni and Stefan Voda. They talked about the effective experience of cooperation with CDA and their interest in continuing the cooperation in the future.
The event culminated with the awarding of diplomas of gratitude for the contribution to the implementation of the Project, the considerable contribution to social cohesion and integration of refugees and displaced persons from Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova.
