- In 2023, CDA lawyers provided more than 113,850 legal counselling services to more than 87,470 displaced persons from Ukraine, as well as refugees and foreigners from other countries.
The assistance provided by CDA lawyers to beneficiaries in placement centres and local communities mainly concerned issues of temporary protection, financial assistance, border crossing and resettlement to other countries, documentation, refugee rights and period of residence, health care, children’s rights and enrolment in education, humanitarian assistance, employment, retirement, social allowances, citizenship procedures.
- With the support of the CDA:
13 persons became citizens of the Republic of Moldova;
114 – were assisted in the process of naturalisation, recognition of citizenship or obtaining stateless status;
461 children were documented with temporary protection;
110 persons with special needs were granted temporary protection.
- The CDA’s legal advisors took 3629 calls from beneficiaries on the CDA’s hotline.
- CDA has developed two studies:
– Study on the implementation of temporary protection granted on the territory of the Republic of Moldova to displaced persons from Ukraine: situation after six months;
– Study on the capacity of the national asylum system.
- CDA organized 34 training activities for social workers, guardianship authorities, lawyers, IGM employees, judges, prosecutors, police officers and conducted 836 information sessions on GBV, temporary protection, refugee rights (145 – for beneficiaries and 691 – for authorities).
- CDA developed and disseminated 4 guides, 3 leaflets, 3 posters, produced and promoted 19 video spots on topics such as the rights of refugees, asylum seekers, beneficiaries of international and temporary protection, stateless or foreigners, prevention of gender-based violence and human trafficking.
- In 2023 CDA implemented six projects:
1. Project “Legal assistance for stateless persons in the Republic of Moldova”, funded by the Embassy of the United States of America;
2. The project “Decentralised aid for Ukrainian refugees”, funded by the international humanitarian organisation Oxfam;
3. The “Rule of Law, Human Rights and Justice” project, funded by the International Organisation of the Francophonie;
4. Project “Strengthening Access to Justice by Empowering Moldovan Refugees with Legal Knowledge”, funded by Sweden through the UNDP Global Programme on Strengthening the Rule of Law, Human Rights, Justice and Security for Peace and Sustainable Development;
5. Project “Promoting adequate, dignified and safe living conditions in Ukraine and Moldova for victims of the armed conflict in Ukraine”, implemented by HEKS Moldova, with financial support from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), NACHBAR IN NOT (NiN) Foundation and Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe;
6. Project “Improve the living conditions and well-being of people fleeing the Ukrainian crisis in Moldova”, implemented by HEKS/EPER, with the support of Norwegian Church Aid.
- In 2023, with the support of UNHCR Moldova, CDA organized an International Conference on “Actual problems in identifying stateless persons, reducing and preventing statelessness”.
CDA was actively involved in the international campaign “16 days of activism against gender-based violence”, held, in cooperation with the City Hall of Anenii Noi, a mini football tournament for peace and in support of refugees from Ukraine. From 15 May to 15 June, in the context of International Refugee Day, the association organized a quiz contest “What do I know about refugees and asylum?”.
