Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova is acquired by birth

A child born on the territory of the Republic of Moldova is considered a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, if at least one of the parents legally reside at the moment of child birth on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

A child born outside the territory of the Republic of Moldova is considered a citizen, provided that, at the time of birth, at least one of the parents is a citizen of the Republic of Moldova.

Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova is acquired through recognition

The persons who acquired and retained this citizenship are recognized as citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

Persons over the age of 18, born on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, who are not registered by the competent authority as citizens of the Republic of Moldova and who do not have proof of citizenship are recognized as citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

Persons who have expressed a wish to become citizens of the Republic of Moldova, namely persons born abroad who have at least one of their parents, grandparents or great-grandparents born on the territory of the Republic of Moldova

Persons who have expressed a wish to become citizens of the Republic of Moldova, namely persons who until June 28, 1940 lived in Bessarabia, Northern Bukovina, Herta County and R.A.S.S.M., their descendants

Persons who have expressed a wish to become citizens of the Republic of Moldova, namely persons deported or refugees from the territory of the Republic of Moldova since June 28, 1940, as well as their descendants

Persons who have expressed a wish to become citizens of the Republic of Moldova, namely persons who on June 23, 1990 lived legally and habitually on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and who continue to live today.

Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova is acquired through adoption or guardianship

The stateless child automatically acquires the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova through adoption or the institution of guardianship if the adoptive parents or at least one of the guardians are citizens of the Republic of Moldova. On the citizenship of the stateless child adopted by the spouses (or who is under the guardianship of the spouses) one of whom is a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, and the other is a foreign citizen, decides, by mutual agreement, the adoptive parents or the court.

The child, foreign citizen, adopted by both spouses or only one of them being a citizen of the Republic of Moldova or one being a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, and the other being a foreign citizen or a stateless person, may request the recognition as a citizen of the Republic of Moldova.

The child, foreign citizen, is under the guardianship of both spouses or only one of them being a citizen of the Republic of Moldova or one being a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, and the other being a foreign citizen or a stateless person, may request the recognition as a citizen of the Republic of Moldova.

Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova is obtained through regain

has resided on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for at least the last 10 years. For stateless persons, refugees and beneficiaries of humanitarian protection and political asylum, that period shall be 8 years

has resided on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for 5 years before reaching the age of 18

has been married to a citizen of the Republic of Moldova for at least 3 years and has been continuously resident in the territory of the Republic of Moldova for the last 3 years

has resided in the territory of the Republic of Moldova for the last 3 years at parents or children (including adoptive parents or adopted children) citizens of the Republic of Moldova
