The CDA participates in the Stateless Journeys campaign, initiated by the European Network on Statelessness, and endorses the Statement “Europe has a duty to protect stateless refugees”, launched as part of the initiative.
Many thousands of refugees coming to Europe are without a nationality, and some children born to refugees may be at risk of statelessness. Current asylum law and policy often fails to adequately address this, resulting in poor decision making and a failure to protect fundamental rights.
Participants in the European Statelessness Network’s Stateless Stateless Journeys campaign advocate for full access to rights and support for stateless refugees and better prioritisation of this issue in international protection responses to improve the treatment of stateless people.
Campaign participants pledged to take action to end #statelessness and ensure that people living in Europe without nationality are protected.
The statement “Europe has a duty to protect stateless refugees”, supported by a coalition of over 75 organizations, including CDA, calls on European governments and the European Union to give stateless refugees all the rights and support they deserve and to give greater priority to this often neglected aspect of asylum and migration policy.
